讲座内容介绍:The idea of using electric current to initiate and control some chemical reactions has been very attractive since humankind developed the very first electrical power sources. Water splitting was one of the first reactions to implement this idea. However, very soon, the researchers found out that, similar to heterogeneous catalysis, the rate of the electrode reactions was often dependent on the materials of those electrodes. This was the starting point of the development of the field, which is now called electrocatalysis. Electrocatalysis is a part of heterogeneous catalysis, which involves understanding and design of systems at electrified electron conductor / ionic conductor interfaces. In the lecture, basic concepts used in electrocatalysis and he will use examples that are related to the energy provision electrocatalytic reactions, such as the hydrogen evolution, oxygen reduction, and oxygen evolution reactions taking place in electrolyzers, fuel cells, and some types of batteries。
